Athletic Bilbao have edged out Las Palmas in the La Liga match on Saturday afternoon, thanks to a set piece goal from the visitors.

The match was played at the Estadio Benito Villamarín and saw Athletic Bilbao start brightly, creating several chances for their attacking players.

However, it was Las Palmas who broke the deadlock first through a goal from the visitors' goalkeeper, who had made a save but failed to clear his lines.

Despite this, Athletic Bilbao continued to push forward and create more opportunities, with the home side finally finding the back of the net in the 87th minute courtesy of a well-worked team goal.

With the score level at 1-1, the game entered injury time, and Athletic Bilbao were awarded a penalty after Las Palmas defender Sergio Canales fouled Athletic's captain, Iker Muniain.

Muniain stepped up to take the spot-kick and dispatched the ball into the top corner of the net, giving Athletic Bilbao the lead and securing all three points for themselves.

This is Athletic Bilbao's third win in their last four matches and sees them move up to sixth place in the table, just one point off the play-off places.

Las Palmas, meanwhile, remain in 14th place and will be hoping to bounce back in their next match against Real Sociedad.
